Opening a Bank Account

There are a few major US banks that have locations across the country: Bank of America, Chase, and Citibank. There are also numerous regional and local banks in each state and/or town. Each bank has its own specific requirements for opening an account; below are the most common across all banks. Please check the bank's website to see its specific requirements. Most banks do not require you to have a Social Security Number to open an account; however, you will need to provide it ASAP once you have obtained one. If you do not have a SSN yet you will need to go to a branch instead of opening an account online.
