Massachusetts: Becoming a CNA
Before Taking the Exams
Either complete a nurse aid training and competency program OR complete the waiver
Waiver requires a CES Professional Report from TruMerit (formerly CGFNS)
Complete your TMU account. Your account will be created after the completion of a training program or successful waiver
Have a United States-issued ID with a picture (First and Last name must match EXACTLY the first and last name on your social security card and TMU profile)
State-issued driver’s license
State-issued ID card
US Passport (foreign passports are not accepted)
Exception for foreign passport with a US VISA attached is acceptable
Permanent Resident Card
Employment-Work Authorization Card issued by USCIS
US military card
Tribal ID Card
Training Programs

Exams
There are two exams: the Knowledge Exam and Skills Exam
The Knowledge Exam may be taken remotely
For all in-person tests, full clinical attire is required
Bluetooth-enabled items are prohibited from exam areas
You are allowed 3 attempts for the Skills exam and 4 attempts for the Knowledge Exam
